Writing Across the Curriculum Institute

August 9th-12th 9am-12pm on Zoom

$150 stipend for attending all 4 days

One unit of EE credit available

The WAC Institute will serve as the launch for RWP's brand new WAC Consortium--a network of K-16 teachers with interest in developing and sharing expertise around the subject of teaching reading and writing across the disciplines. During the four-day Institute, facilitators Nicolette Amann (HSU) and Danielle Witten (Arcata High and HSU) will introduce key principles and best practices for teaching and assessing reading and writing in all subjects. Using current resources and interactive workshops, the Institute will address topics such as the following:

    • designing and scaffolding writing assignments with attention to purpose
    • identifying and teaching key characteristics of various text types/genres
    • promoting metacognition and transfer of knowledge about reading and writing
    • defining disciplinary literacy and inquiry within the disciplines

Teachers who participate in the WAC Institute will be invited to facilitate and/or participate in WAC-focused book groups, lesson study groups, and other workshops throughout the 2021-2022 school year as part of the ongoing WAC Consortium group.

We hope you join us to help launch this exciting new RWP program!
